Long Distance E-Dating

I love the scene in Napoleon Dynamite when Napoleon’s short white nerdy brother from small town Idaho finally meets his tall black beautiful online pen-pal from Detroit, and truelove ensues. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work out that way. Every date isa gamble, and a long-distance date is an especially expensive gamble. If you decide to date long-distance, perhaps because you’ve exhausted the local pool,do whatever you can to minimize the risk. If your date goes well, you’re all set. But if not, you may be stuck in a strange city with no one you know and no place to stay. So make a backup plan, and don’t hesitate to employ it. A friend of mine from Austin once set up a date in New York. I was out of town at the time, so he stayed in my place. The date fizzled, but he hung out with a mutual friend of ours and had a great time in the city anyway.
